The picturesque city of Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage site for the Hindus as well as the Muslims. Ajmer, situated on the southwest of Jaipur, is an oasis wrapped in the green hills.   1. Taragarh Fort

    Built in 1354, it used to be a major vanguard for the Chauhan forces. It has three impressive gateways that will have you hooked with their architectural beauty. Though it’s withered with time, it still has an awe-inspiring charm to it. Gazing at the city beneath from its arches is an experience that can’t be put into words. It once had sandalwood trees by its sides, the fragrance rising up the arches and into the entire fort complex.

    There are a huge number of Forts and Palaces in Ajmer, which are Akbar Fort, Taragarh Fort, Mansingh Palace, Bijay Niwas Palace and much more. But among all these forts and palaces one of the most famous palaces is Akbar’s Palace. Akbar’s Palace, Ajmer is one of the most beautiful monuments in the city and shows the brilliant work of art and skill that has been used to construct this palace.


  3. Roopangarh Fort

    The Ajmer Sharif Dargah has been historically very famous for being one the most important shrines of the Sufis. It is very popular amongst tourists who come from all over the world to pay their respects here. The dargah is said to be the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Revered by the ruler so much so that he built pillars called “Kose” at gaps of two miles throughout the entire stretch between his place of stay Agra and the city of Ajmer.     The most established Sanskrit College was later transformed into a mosque by a Mughal emperor and is situated on the slope of the Taragarh hill. The calligraphy on its walls makes this landmark a must visit and the ancient temple has relics that have typical Hindu and Muslim architecture. More than 40 different intricately designed columns support the roof and the designs on each are unique. The monument is wonderfully made and stands in ruins today and yet manages to capture one’s admiration.

    Truly one of the best Jain temples in Rajasthan, Nasiyan Jain temple is a prime Digambar Jain sacred site in Ajmer. Also known as Soniji Ki Nasiyan, this temple boasts of an amazing elegant-feel in its architecture. This temple is a man-made gem, the perfect example of traditional Jain-style architecture, a real treat to the eyes of the devotees and the tourists. Dedicated to Lord Adinath, the first Tirthankara of Jainism, this temple is made up of red sandstone. Stones and precious metals have also been used extensively.
